About Teacher Certification in the Yukon
Teacher certification is required to work as a teacher in the Yukon. The requirements for certification in the Yukon are defined by the Teacher Certification Regulations.

If you have not taught in the past 2 years, the registrar may issue a teaching certificate with restrictions or conditions, such as:
The registrar may add conditions or restrictions to protect the public interest. An example would be if an applicant has faced complaints or criminal or disciplinary proceedings related to competency, conduct or character. In some cases, applications can be denied.

Eligibility
To be eligible for a Yukon Professional Teaching Certificate, you must
- be of good moral character, sound judgment and, in all respects, a fit and proper person to teach school students;
- be a Canadian citizen or a landed immigrant or be otherwise qualified to legally work in Canada; and
- hold a qualification document from another Canadian jurisdiction and be in good standing with the regulatory authority that issued the qualification document;
- OR have completed an approved bachelor of education degree at a university or college in Yukon or under the auspices of Yukon Education.

- certificate
- licence
- registration
- or other form of official recognition
Application process
Applications must include
- a completed application form
- a copy of the qualification document
- a current statement of professional standing from the jurisdiction that issued the qualification document
- a current statement of professional standing from any other Canadian jurisdiction in which the applicant may have taught
- copy of most recent evaluation or, in the case of new teachers, copies of practice teaching reports
- at least two written references respecting the applicant’s abilities and suitability for teaching
- in the case of an applicant who has completed teacher training in Yukon, official transcripts of the applicant’s academic qualifications
An applicant may also be required to provide:
- a record of all prior experience as a teacher
- evidence of both oral and written proficiency in one of the two official languages of Canada
- a criminal record check
- any additional information required to evaluate the documents
